Transom - Original in Disrepair

This is a restoration piece. The original window consisted of the coloured glass. The client had a sentimental connection to this window and hoped to find a way to protect the original design while making it a functional piece in their home.

Siobhan restored the original window and surrounded it with a highly textured clear glass to maintain the integrity of the original pattern at the same time allowing it to be placed in a transom of the new space.

This abstract design enabled Siobhan to experiment and discover new combinations of colours and textures that compliment and support each other to create a final piece that is breathtaking.

Siobhan was able to incorporate many types of glass within the colour scheme to generate this dynamic. The glass appears to shift and move in the light as one approaches and moves away from the piece. This window changes with both proximity and weather creating and ever moving dynamic.

Originally it was created to provide privacy from an adjacent neighbour. Siobhan and the client worked together to develop a general design concept and colour scheme that complimented the surrounding space and decor. This window is set on the landing of a staircase. Located in a corridor part of the design process was to create a piece that reflects an architectural sense of flow.
